Child Sponsorship

Child SponsorshipChild sponsorship is a powerful way to break the cycle of poverty by providing children with access to education, nutrition, healthcare, and emotional support. In both Ethiopia and Zambia, millions of children face daily challenges that hinder their development and future potential.

  • Over 4.5 million children in Ethiopia are orphaned or separated from their families due to poverty, HIV/AIDS, and conflict.
  • 13 million children in Ethiopia are out of school, and 90% of 10-year-olds cannot read a simple sentence.
  • 70.6% of children in Zambia are multidimensionally poor, suffering from deprivation in two or more areas like education, nutrition, and sanitation.
  • 65% of children in Zambia live in monetary poverty, and 48% do not finish primary school.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when I sponsor a child?

Sponsoring a child through GHA provides them with medical care, nutritional supplements, school uniforms, stationery, and educational support. This helps them develop skills for independence. Donations are pooled to ensure all children receive care.

Will I receive information about the child?

Yes, you'll receive an annual progress report about your sponsored child. When they're old enough, they'll be encouraged to write to you.

How much does sponsorship cost?

Each child is sponsored by a donor at a monthly cost of $25 (US) or £20 (UK).

Can I visit the child?

Yes, you can visit the child with staff present. Please email us at info@givehopearica.org at least a week in advance.

What are payment options?

You can donate via credit/debit card, PayPal or Zeffy on our website. Enable monthly auto draft for convenience. Payments can also be made annually, biannually, or quarterly.

How long is the sponsorship commitment?

What if my circumstances change? We aim to sponsor children until age 18. Ideally, we ask for a minimum 3-year commitment, but we understand circumstances change. You can cancel anytime with written notice.

Is Confidentiality Maintained?

Yes, sponsor details are not shared with third parties or the child. All correspondence is through Give Hope Africa and/or country offices.

Can I send gifts?

You can send monetary gifts for your child, which will be held in an account for their special needs or future independence. We do not accept in-kind donations due to logistics limitations.
